How to delete your MyBloodlines account?
If you’ve decided to stop using MyBloodlines, you can delete your account yourself from the Account page. It only takes a minute, but it’s permanent, so it’s worth knowing what happens to your access, your subscription, and the shared family record before you confirm.
Before you start
A few things are easier to sort out while your account still exists:
- Think about timing if you’re on a paid plan. Deleting your account cancels your subscription immediately, with no refund for the rest of the billing period. If you’ve shared spare seats with relatives on a Historians or Bloodliners plan, they lose those contributor seats at the same moment.
- Make sure your branch stays reachable. If you’re the only user connected to part of the graph, that part may be left with nobody able to reach it and will be scheduled for deletion. Inviting a relative to claim a profile on that branch keeps it in someone’s hands — see how to get relatives involved in your family history.
- Save anything you want to keep personally. Once the account is deleted, you can’t sign back in to look at stories or photos.
Steps to delete your account
- Sign in to MyBloodlines with the Google or Apple account you normally use.
- Open Account from the left sidebar.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and choose Delete account.
- Read the warning that appears. It reminds you that deletion is permanent and irreversible, and summarizes the effects listed below.
- Confirm the deletion.
What happens when you delete your account
- It can’t be undone. There’s no recovery period and no way to restore the account afterwards.
- You’re signed out everywhere. Your account, your sign-in, and every active session are deleted, so you’re signed out on all your devices immediately.
- Your subscription ends. Any paid plan is cancelled right away, with no refund for the remainder of the billing period.
- You lose access to the graph. People, stories, and photos inside your permission boundary are no longer accessible to you.
- The shared archive stays with your family. If you had claimed a profile, it is released and the shared archive (including stories, photos, the bloodline graph and everything in it) remain accessible to your family members.
- Unreachable parts of the graph may be removed. If no other user can reach a part of the graph you were connected to, that part is treated as abandoned and its data will be scheduled for deletion.
- Pending requests are dropped. Invitations, cross-graph connection requests, and view-access requests you sent or received can no longer be acted on.
If you only want a break
If you don’t want to lose your sign-in, there are lighter options. You can unclaim your profile to step away from the graph while keeping your account, or cancel a paid plan and stay on the free Explorer plan with view-only access.
